Namaste:) Yoga is the sum total of all activities-mental, verbal and physical. The Sanskrit word yoga has many meanings, and is derived from the Sanskrit root “yuj,” meaning “to control,” “to yoke” or “to unite”. Translations include “joining,” “uniting,” “union,” “conjunction,” and “means.” Outside India, the term yoga is typically associated with Hatha Yoga and its asanas (postures) or as a form of exercise. Someone who practices yoga or follows the yoga philosophy is called a yogi (male) or yogini (female).
Patanjali is widely regarded as the founder of the formal Yoga philosophy. Patanjali’s writing also became the basis for a system referred to as “Ashtanga Yoga” (”Eight-Limbed Yoga”), best, easy, fast and most effective yoga. The Eight Limbs are:
1.Yama (The five “abstentions”): non-violence, non-lying, non-covetousness, non-sensuality, and non-possessiveness.
2.Niyama (The five “observances”): purity, contentment, austerity, study, and surrender to god.
3.Asana: Literally means “seat”, and in Patanjali’s Sutras refers to the seated position used for meditation.
4.Pranayama (”Suspending Breath”): PrÄ?na, breath, “Ä?yÄ?ma”, to restrain or stop. Also interpreted as control of the life force.
5.Pratyahara (”Abstraction”): Withdrawal of the sense organs from external objects.
6.Dharana (”Concentration”): Fixing the attention on a single object.
7.Dhyana (”Meditation”): Intense contemplation of the nature of the object of meditation.
8.SamÄ?dhi (”Liberation”): merging consciousness with the object of meditation.
Some of the tremendous benefits of yoga are; increased flexibility (yoga has positions that act upon the various joints of the body including those joints that are never recognized let alone exercised.) massaging of all organs of the Body (yoga is the only form of activity which massages all the internal glands and organs of the body in a thorough manner, including those – such as the prostate – that hardly get externally stimulated during our entire lifetime. Yoga acts in a wholesome manner on the various body parts. This stimulation and massage of the organs in turn benefits us by keeping away disease and providing a forewarning at the first possible instance of a likely onset of disease or disorder), sense of awareness (yoga develops in the practitioner of an impending health disorder or infection. This in turn enables the person to take pre-emptive corrective action) complete detoxification (by gently stretching muscles and joints as well as massaging the various organs, yoga ensures the optimum blood supply to various parts of the body. This helps in the flushing out of toxins from every nook and cranny as well as providing nourishment up to the last point. This leads to benefits such as delayed ageing, energy and a remarkable zest for life.) and excellent toning of the muscles (muscles that have become flaccid, weak or slothy are stimulated repeatedly to shed excess flab and flaccidity.
I strongly recommend you to start practicing yoga now for your health, relaxation, meditation, stress relief, liberation and limitless happiness. You may start with ashtanga yoga and start with the initial 2 parts of the primary series; sun salutations A and sun salutations B. It will only take 20 mins of your day and the return will be fantastic and so fast. For more information and charts showing the details of the poses, you may see my blog at http://easyashtanga.blogspot.com and ask me if you have any questions.
Love:)

Yoga, the thousand years old Hindu philosophy of maintaining physiological fitness, is getting much more popularity day by day for its scientific base and methods. This ancient philosophy with its root in Indian culture, is successfully spreading its wide branches in the global arena. A growing number of people are including yoga in their daily lives to get a balanced life with sound mind and body. Daily practicing of appropriate yoga poses lead an individual to acquire a good health for as long as he or she lives. Hatha yoga, Karma yoga, pranayama, meditation, Kundalini yoga are some of the various forms of Yoga which are generally practiced by common people in daily life. Practicing yoga incorporated with music, particularly Yoga music, ensures better result.
From ancient times yoga is considered as a Sadhana or soulful practice. For the aspirants who want to start yoga practice, it would be advisable to make a routine for daily practicing. Doctor’s advice should be taken in special cases like during pregnancy, after major surgery or during any chronic medical severities. Yoga is beneficial only if it can be practiced regularly and timely. According to the ancient Yoga books the best time to perform yoga is early morning, just before the sunrise. There is no harm in practicing it in other timings but morning is just the perfect time. One can allot a particular time for doing Yoga exercises and follow it in a daily basis. Yoga exercises or asanas are best done on an empty stomach and in a quite place, free from any noise. One can also play some soothing meditation music to enliven the atmosphere as well as enhance the mood.
Plenty of Yoga DVDs and CDs available at Spirit Voyage, the online music company, can also be a great help for learning and doing yoga sadhana. These DVDs and CDs give proper instructions and required information on yoga and how to practice Yoga and other dos and don’ts. These guidelines also contain visuals for every poses or asanas. Thus, the seemingly tough task becomes much more easier and effortless. Yoga accessories also make the sadhana comfortable and perfect. Using various yoga accessories like yoga mat, yoga clothing, yoga cushions, yoga malas and jwewlleries etc. are very much helpful in getting the desired result. Yoga mat ensures less energy loss and thus higher level of concentration. Yoga cushions make the practitioners feel comfortable while doing tough yoga poses like Kundalini yoga poses etc.
One thing should be kept in mind that if someone is doing Yoga for the first time, there is a good chance of having muscle cramp while doing yoga or later on that day. So it is better to start with some easier poses, habituating the body with those poses for next few days and then go for the strenuous or tough ones. Within one month the body muscles will be much more flexible. Continuity of time and duration is also another prior thing of yoga practicing. But practicing yoga should be stopped if someone is suffering from illness or women during their menstruation. One can also find these informations on the Yoga DVDs and CDs offered by Spirit Voyage.
Spirit Voyage also has a rich collection of Yoga music and meditation music. The pure and divine music creates the perfect ambiance of doing yoga at home by relaxing the mind and thus increasing the level of concentration. Yoga is a philosophy and spiritual practice derived from Hindu theism, its aim is to suppress all activities of the mind and body, and separate them from one another to achieve liberation. In simpler terms, Yoga makes people feel better while loosing weight. It improves the posture, breathing, etc. Other than its physical effect, Yoga has proven to be a powerful tool in managing or controlling anxiety, back pain, blood pressure, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, headache, stress, and heart disease. Needless to say, it’s worth trying.
Most people try Yoga to improve their muscle tone, stamina, flexibility, and strength; but some do it to reduce stress and tension, improve circulation, and lower fat. Whatever the reason, it leads to one ultimate goal and that is to improve their appearance.
Yoga is defined as “union” in the classical Indian language. Based on the principles of the original yogis; practicing Yoga helps a person to achieve true happiness, enlightenment, and liberation. It was designed to take away the negative factors that make people unhappy or grouchy in their every day lives. In effect, people are placed in a position to better manage their reactions, emotions, and responses when dealing with everyday stress and problems.
The following are basic yoga practices that must be done on a daily basis:
1. Sun Salutations.
People who are too busy to exercise can spend only a few minutes performing this ritual. It stimulates the muscles and joints. It is a series of 12 non-stop poses that go together with proper breathing. This may be done twice a day or more.
2. Breath Control.
This is the most popular part of Yoga. It is done by sitting erect in the place chosen by the person for Yoga meditation alone. It is usually a place that is free from noise and preferably close to nature.
3. Meditation.
Refers to mentally repeating ‘So” and “Ham” with every inhale and exhale respectively. It is one of the simplest practices in Yoga and works for everyone.
4. Sun Salutation, Breath control, and Meditation combined.
Combining these simple practices is great for beginners. This can be done for at least 3 minutes every morning or late afternoon. Doing this regularly can naturally expand the Yoga practices.
Perhaps losing weight and attaining inner peace is the most sensible goal a person can achieve. It not only guarantees a positive aura and great appearance, it also offers psychological benefits that cause people to feel good about themselves.

An intimate touch of sound or music can penetrate the whole being of human body. From the ancient ages this is a proven fact. Particularly in India, music for its rich root is considered as an integral part of Yoga practicing. And India has also a rich source of instrumental music with its innumerable kinds of musical instruments be it classical, traditional or folk. Every kind, every type and every genre has its own distinct characteristics. The mild and melodious tunes of flute or the healing sound of sitar, each one soothes the mind and soul. Instrumental music can be used as the best kind of meditation music. As the beautiful sounds of instruments help the mind and soul to relax and concentrate on a single thought.
Yoga or meditation is a way to connect oneself with the divine power or God. Gods and Goddesses often have a close association with music. It is said that the melodious tune from the flute of Krishna, the God of love, overflows this earth with serene divinity. Musical instruments are also used to worship Saraswati, the Goddess of music. Instrumental music frees the mind from all mundane thoughts and pulls the mind towards the Divine. Thus, it transforms the mind into a higher level of concentration required in practicing Yoga. Music also plays a significant role in some particular forms of Yoga like Hatha yoga or Kundalini Yoga.
Traditional musical instruments like flute or bansuri, tanpura and sitar are mainly suitable to form the base of yoga music for their calming sounds. Generally these instruments are used to compose the music-tracks of Yoga DVDs which relieve the mind from all anxieties, tensions or worries thus helping it to relax. The sound of bansuri is perfect to be used in meditation or yoga. Sometimes natural sounds like sounds of waterfalls or birdsong when woven with instrumental music creates a harmony between the mother nature and human kind. This heavenly symphony makes the Union with the Absolute amazingly smooth and perpetual.
Music heightens the consciousness of human being which is a pre-requisite for practicing any kind of yoga – be it Kundalini yoga, Karma yoga, Nada yoga or Vikrama yoga. But vocal music can distract the mind as the mind seems to get involved in understanding the lyrics and voice. Whereas calm and relaxing instrumental music is free from such kind of mind-distraction features. Minimal use of heavy sounds or instruments and maximum use of mind-refreshing light sounds evoke the spiritual sense within. Nothing can be better than these tranquil tunes as meditation music. Incorporating these types of music into yoga practicing can lead to a greater level of self-realization and attainment of moksha.
Spirit Voyage, an online music company, is rich with its massive collection of instrumental yoga music suitable for practicing yoga or meditation. This collection will surely transform the mind of the practitioner into a higher level of divine calmness. This company also offers wide range of music of different genres such as meditation music, yoga music CDs and DVDs etc. which promise to satisfy the demands of the yoga admirers. Artists like Deva Premal, Wah!, Snatam Kaur, Donna De Lory and Gurmukh have lent their pure voices which transform the atmosphere into a highest level of divine meditative state.

Simon Gelfand asked:
Pilates Exercises have been getting more and more attention from lots of people. Since its introduction to the American Population in the 1910’s, the exercise technique invented by the German national Joseph Pilates has caught the attention of millions of Americans to date. Pilates first started with simple springs attached to hospital beds for his first Pilates machine, and since then the machines, as well as the techniques used have improved so well. Pilates also has his share of students, who continued his “teachings†his studio and his work. Nowadays, the modern day Pilates instructor, need only a certification, that they indeed have the proper training to supervise a safe and effective Pilates class. Pilates certifications are offered by a vast number of firms that aside from offering Pilates certifications also hold classes for practitioners.
A Pilates Certification course basically consists of the different basic techniques in the Pilates exercise, as well as good positioning, machine work and mat exercises.
The first Pilates certification course that would probably be taught in a typical Pilates Certification class is basic matwork exercises. These are beginner and intermediate level matwork classes after which, you will be certified to teach beginner or intermediate level Pilates Class. You won’t need a machine for Pilates matwork, which make it the highest in demand because, if you’re planning on teaching Pilates for a living, you can easily start on a low budget, and teach Pilates without using Machines.
The second topic in your Pilates certification course may probably be standing Pilates; this like mat Pilates doesn’t need machines as well, but may take a bit more experience to learn because of the complicated position of standing upright, most Pilates certification schools do not teach standing Pilates until after the trainee has a certification in matwork Pilates.
After standing Pilates, is advanced matwork Pilates. The Pilates certification for advanced matwork, is given later because as its name says, it is advanced, meaning more difficult moves, which entails a higher probability of someone making a mistake. It is therefore crucial that the instructor to be is well trained before he gets an advanced matwork Pilates certification.
After the non equipment courses, the next course for Pilates certification would be the apparatus courses, where you’ll be certified as an instructor for certain machines. First, the would-be instructor is trained with the basic Pilates equipment, Cadillac, reformer, circle, and barrels. After the course, you will have a Pilates certification for apparatus. Some schools offer standing apparatus Pilates certification, as a separate training program from basic apparatus training, if you want to learn it all at once, then you’ll most likely find a certification firm that will accommodate you.
The last and probably the most complicated one is the training for people with special cases, like those with back, neck, knee, shoulder problems. These are more complicated situations and need more focus on. The only one that probably needs a better trained instructor would probably be Pilates for rehabilitation. Yes, Pilates can be used for rehabilitation, but to get a Pilates certification for rehabilitation, you must be certified in all the other Pilates techiniques, this is because most people that need rehabilitaiton are fragile and therefore need extra care, as well as extra training.
After getting a Pilates certification for every course, the trainees should have the skills to teach the exercise techniques, as well as its Pilosophical aspects to practitioners. Some schools even teach the trainees so that after they finish each course, they will also have enough skills to modify the exercise techniques to fit their class’ needs, so that after you train, you can further improve on the teachniques that we’re taught to you and apply them as the case may be.
