Dahn Yoga teaches you not to worry
I am a big worrier. I worry about not having a job, I worry about my grandson with spina bifida, I worry about my husband’s health (heart and diabetes), I worry about our country, I worry about everything. My kids tell me they don’t have to worry because I worry enough for everyone. Once I read in the newspaper about a sign on a church marquee that read, "Worry never solves tomorrow’s problems, it only robs today of its joy." Dahn Yoga teaches you not to worry. It reminds you to smile. It teaches you to get rid of the bad energy and bring the good energy in.
This good energy coming in will help to heal your body of its pain. I feel so much better coming to this class. I still have pain but every day I look forward to being pain free, I look forward to seeing familiar faces and the masters smiling and reminding us to smile. It’s a great feeling to be sincerely cared about by folks that care about your health.
These are genuine teachers who truly care about their work, their life’s purpose, and the message they want you to get. One of the masters always says after she’s told you some enlightening information, "You Get It?" I look forward to going to this class as much as possible. Many times we sign up for something and go "gung ho" for a few weeks and then we make excuses about why we can’t go: "I have housework to do, I don’t feel good, I have to go grocery shopping, I rather stay home and watch a movie, I just don’t feel like going." I have never felt this way since I started. I always want to go.
I can’t wait to go. I can’t wait for the good energy to come in, and the bad energy to go out. It is easy to tell others about this class. A former neighbor and friend has just joined. I think once you feel how good it is to feel good you can’t keep this secret to yourself. It’s easy to call someone and tell them because you want them to feel good too. Others say it is too expensive. But what price is feeling good, what price is healing yourself, what price is getting your brain in gear so your body can heal, what price is the smile on your face? It’s all priceless.

All About Dahn Yoga
This article is basically containing life experience about Dahn Yoga. I found Dahn so fortunately a couple of months after nearly dying when my autonomic nervous system began to shut down due to my physical inactivity. I was quite unaware I had slipped into a mid-life depression during that time.
My devotion to my practice has brought me many additional blessings beyond physical health and vitality. True blessings have come with the opportunity to grow my soul. Simple words are an insufficient medium to express the breadth and depth of peace, love, and joy I have found.
What better life purpose than to be a healer? During my lifetime I now have the amazing opportunity of not only healing myself and my immediate family as I grow my soul, but also helping to heal the world and Mother Earth.
When I first got Dahn Yoga’s flyer in my mailbox I thought the timing couldn’t be more perfect. I had recently been laid off, my body was feeling pain everywhere, so I thought there’s a message here for me. I’d have a place to go to in the morning instead of going to work and maybe, just maybe, I could find something, anything to help me deal with the pain in my lower back and leg.
Signing up for Dahn Yoga has been a miracle for me. I love it! I love the masters, I love the exercises, I love the dancing, I love the music and the drumming, I love the brain wave vibration techniques, I love being with folks in the class who also want to heal their bodies, who also want to relieve stress. I am truly, truly humbled and grateful to be on this journey with you all. I love you all very much. Thank you for your help.

Why Pilates Might not be Sufficient to Reach Your Fitness Goals
The Pilates Method was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900′s. This form of exercise uses the mind to control muscles in the body and focuses on key muscles that keep the body balanced.
These important muscles make up one of the support systems for the spine.
By doing Pilates, you will become more aware of your breathing and of the alignment of your own spine. The ultimate goal out of this exercise system is to strengthen the muscles in the torso even though much more can be achieved by using the Pilates system correctly.
This revolutionary system requires some historical knowledge. Joseph Pilates invented the system during the First World War in an attempt to improve the mental and physical condition of war veterans.
Since Pilates was created, it has blossomed into one of the favorite exercise systems in the United States with more than 11 million using it on a regular basis.
There are many principles of the Pilates system. While the exact principles can be debated upon, the general perception is that the principles are as followed: Breathing, Centering, Concentration, Control, and Precision. Each of these principles play an important part in the Pilates system as the full benefits and effects of the Pilates system are experienced when all of these principles are utilized.
Breathing is a very important part of the Pilates system. The founder of the Pilates technique, Joseph Pilates, believed that it was important for the blood to circulate so that the cell waste created by fatigue would be removed from the body. He also believed that the blood had to contain a vast amount of oxygen in order to remove the waste products through breathing.
Due to this fact, the Pilates system is based upon the process of correct breathing. Every Pilates exercise is designed in such a way to provide for proper inhalation and exhalation of oxygen.
Centering is another key aspect of the Pilates system. The Pilates style of exercise starts at the “powerhouse” of the body. The “powerhouse” consists of the large group of muscles located in the center of the body. Another name for the “powerhouse” is the “core”, which is the term that most instructors will use
Basically, the energy generated by the Pilates system begins at the “core” and flows to the other parts of the body as the exercise session continues.
Concentration is yet another important principle of Pilates. Pilates demands a great amount of focus. From the control of your breathing to the control of your limbs, concentration is vital for a successful Pilates workout.
The entire Pilates system is built upon the idea of Control. Controlling your muscles is paramount in order to properly enjoy a true Pilates workout. The action of the muscles must be carefully calculated and under control. In doing this, you will lessen the risk of injuring yourself and therefore enjoy a better workout. Finally, Precision is another major part of the Pilates system. In order not to waste the body’s energy, the movement must be controlled and precise.
The idea of Pilates are to make precise and perfect movements instead of imperfect movements that waste energy and time. That would be a basic summary of the Pilates way of life. If you are interested in starting a Pilates chapter in your life, I recommend that you contact a personal trainer to get you stared on the right track.
The Eight Limbs of Yoga
Yoga refers to traditional physical and mental disciplines originating in India. It focuses upon developing a healthy mind and body, and on attaining self-awareness. The various practices and disciplines of yoga are available to everyone, no matter what their culture or other paths they may follow. Yoga practice also involves developing awareness on a universal and personal level through the yamas and niyamas, a series of ethics and disciplines intended to cultivate living in harmony with others and in oneness with our true selves.
Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years and consists of ancient theories, observations and principles regarding the connection of the mind with the body. The ancient Indian sage systemized yoga philosophy into eight paths or limbs: yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, samadhi. These limbs each express a different aspect of yoga and combined make up the path or yoga practice that unites the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels of our being.
Yama – Yama are ethical disciplines that relate to how we can live in a shared world with peace and integrity. Niyama – These disciplines relate to the individual and focus on living a healthy, fulfilled and masterful life. Asana – The word asana means ‘to be’, in the sense of being in a posture. The asanas were developed for the maintenance of a healthy mind and body, with each posture affecting the body, mind and emotions in a unique way and working as a pathway to balance and wellbeing. Pranayama – In the practice of pranayama, we develop breathing techniques that increase oxygen intake and strengthen lung capacity while also increasing the absorption of prana, or life force. In its simplest form, pranayama involves deep, full breathing. Dharana – Following on from pratyahara, dharana is the ability to be completely internally absorbed and focused. This practice of single-pointed concentration stills the mind and leads to profound quietness within. Dhyana – Following on from dharana is dhyana, or meditation – sitting where there is no focus, just stillness; no thoughts, only emptiness. Samadhi – In this state of absolute personal freedom there is union of the individual soul with the universal soul. It is the practice of living at one with all that is.
With regular yoga practice of yoga, you will get strength, flexibility and good health, the benefits of which flow into all aspects of life. Increased energy levels bring a new perspective on life, the increased feelings of self-love and inspiration lead us to discover talents and interests we never knew existed and problems that once seemed overwhelming become more manageable.

Good yoga instruction makes one more aware of the body, alignment and patterns of movement. Beginning yoga is a great way to not only to lose flab, but to stay fit lifelong. In the right environment and setting, the yoga exercises, also known as yogaasanas, make the body supple and toned. Weight loss yoga is a very gentle way to stretch the body and makes it slimmer. Yoga training might not be the best for fast weight loss, but it is a wonderful way to keep the body and mind in shape. Yoga weight loss means losing fat that does not come back, if the yoga exercises are continued after the weight loss.
Beginning yoga
Beginning yoga is easy one has to find a convenient place for yoga instruction, or with yoga videos. The yoga movements are usually performed in a group, with a yoga mat with specialized yoga instruction. There are no expensive equipments required – the body’s own weight is used for resistance and a great deal of importance is accorded to the method with no stressful or abrupt movements. Even in the first week, one can feel the difference and the exercise makes one more energetic, happier and peaceful.
Different yoga styles
There are many different yoga styles, like ashtanga yoga, patanjali yoga etc, and they differ in their emphasis. The pilates yoga exercise system was formulated by joseph pilates over 80 years ago for cultivating more strength and lengthening the spine, and is especially popular among dancers. Pilates yoga exercises can be a valuable tool for enhancing strength, definition, and good posture, although it is not a complete balanced tool for all round well being.
Weight loss yoga
Weight loss yoga focuses on different asanas through which one can easily reduce extra fat from the body. Postures that stimulate sluggish glands to increase their hormonal secretions are included in the program, for example, asanas like shoulder stand and the fish posture are particularly effective for the thyroid gland, which secrete hormones that affect the body metabolism. Thus fat metabolism is increased with these exercises, as well as the muscle tone improved, which gives double benefit.
Yoga training reduces stress and anxiety
Yoga also entails deep breathing that increases the oxygen intake to the body cells, including the fat cells, inducing the conversion of these fat deposits to energy. Another amazing aspect of yoga training is that it reduces stress and anxiety. This stops the compulsive gobbling up of food, relaxes the mind so that the food is eaten with satisfaction and pleasure. Lesser calories are burnt with yoga than in other exercises, but it an extremely relaxing way of exercising, as it works with both the mind and the body. Weight loss yoga can be extremely fulfilling way of shedding those stubborn pounds, and can introduce a new kind of better healthier living.
Yoga and spiritual evolution
Evolution is a process of advancement, growth or unfoldment. Spirituality deals with the issues to experience wholeness, integration, as a quest to discover the meaning and purpose of life, as a journey to contact the source of eternal bliss and fulfillment, balance and perfection in life. Spirituality doesn’t mean to run away from the society or the regular duties of day today life as it is thought generally in India. Spirituality expresses itself in many different ways. There are philosophical, psychological and also behavioral perspectives. Yoga addresses this concept of spirituality from a very practical level. Therefore yoga assimilates the essence of both behavioral and psychological perspectives. Like the field of humanistic movements and existentialistic system of philosophy and psychology, yoga also deals with the issues of finding purpose to life and becoming self actualized. It also talks of the ways which cause betterment of life. Yoga makes life filled with health, happiness, and holism and for that it harmonizes head, heart and hands.
Process and the techniques:
Yama-niyamas deals with the attitudinal and behavioral aspects of individuals which not only work on restructuring the cognitive and attitudinal structures in mind but also through behavioral patterns or expression transforms the traits of personality. Asana and the other hatha yogic techniques which also address crucial areas of our life like health and living, meditation involves techniques of gyana yoga, bhakti and karma yoga; which satisfy the quench of the intellectual and the analytical minds and is also a panacea for a restless or stressed mind. Service (vedantic and the bhakti schools of yoga. Karma yoga and the bhakti are intimately related to each other; as both of them are the expressions of heart. Karma yoga can not be perfected until one surrenders ones ego and that is bhakti. But analysis also goes on inside the mind. But bhakti only involves the feeling aspects there is no place for analysis or rationality. It is all about the process to open the heart.) To transmit the feeling of universal love towards one and all, is the expression of service which not only serves the purpose of the individual but also plays a significant role to establish the harmony in society. These all are the different facets of spirituality which serve the individual and the humanity. All great saints serve the humanity and that is the culmination of spirituality. Spirituality also means becoming more practical and grounded. It is the process of being in the present and work for the enhancement or refinement of humane qualities and betterment of life. So practicality in life can not be separated from the spirituality in life. We as human being are not only a creature living for earning few breads in everyday life and maintain population but the evolution of consciousness in man implies it has some specific purposes also. Apart from earning breads and finding physical securities in life we also constantly search for a satisfying, life fulfilling philosophies which not only calms the mind and the emotions but also satisfies the soul. For leading a balanced and fulfilling life man needs a constructive and the creative philosophy of life. Man’s living is based on certain philosophies of life, which direct and shape the flow of life.
I started yoga teaching 10 years ago after completing my Post Graduation in Yoga Psychology from Bihar Yoga Bharati (Deemed University). After completing the study there I started sharing my learning with yoga aspirants, in the same university as Lecturer in the Dept. Of Yoga Psychology. The field of yoga has been an awakening and life transforming experience for me. It opened a completely new perspective to see the reality and participate in the flow of life! And I do believe that every particle in the UNIVERSE is participating and contributing to the eternal flow of life..
